How to Use Blue Stone Cleaner
What You'll Need
- A 5-7 liter (1½–2 gallon) pump-up garden sprayer
- A pressure washer
We recommend you wear old clothing and rain boots or protective shoes, to avoid the product coming into contact with skin.
Step 1 – Test a Small Area
Before treating the entire surface, apply Stone King to one slab. If enough product is applied, you’ll notice a colour charge within 5 minutes.
Step 2 – Apply the Product
Using a pump sprayer, thoroughly saturate the Bluestone surface with Stone King.
Step 3 – Let It Work
Leave the product on the surface for approximately 2 hours.
As it works, Stone King penetrates the stone and breaks down stains caused by algae, lichen, mold, dirt, and other organic buildup.
Step 4 – Pressure Wash
Rinse the treated area using a pressure washer to remove the loosened buildup and reveal the restored natural color of your Bluestone. Once the area has been pressure washed, any moss will be removed.
Step 5 – Re-treat the stone
Surfaces older than 5 years may need re-treating to remove stubborn organic staining. Continue to treat the test area so you can see the result that’s achievable before treating the remaining area.
How do I keep my patio clean?
To keep your Bluestone looking its best:
- Sweep away leaves and organic debris regularly.
- Clean new algae or organic staining before it becomes established.
- Avoid applying sealers, as they can alter the stone's natural appearance or make future cleaning more difficult. Sealers will not stop the patio getting dirty or growth such as algae, lichen spots or moss.

Do I still need to pressure wash?
Yes. Stone King is designed to work alongside pressure washing by loosening stubborn dirt and organic staining first, allowing your pressure washer to clean more effectively with less effort.
How long do I leave the product on for?

What is the difference between Patio Black Spot Remover and Blue Stone Cleaner?
These two cleaners are the same product, however named and sold differently for marketing reasons.
Will it remove black spot lichen?
Yes, Stone King will remove stains caused by black lichen spots. Stone King will also remove stains caused by algae & mold. For heavy or long-established black spot lichen, more than one treatment may be required to achieve the best results. We recommend you carry out a test slab first to see how many applications are required. You’ll then have the confidence the product works.
Is it safe for pets and plants?
Yes. Once the treated area has been thoroughly rinsed, it is safe for pets to return.
Stone King is also safe to use around plants when applied correctly. Avoid spraying the undiluted product directly onto plants or grass. Once the treated area has been rinsed, the runoff will not harm surrounding vegetation.
I was told not to use a pressure washer on my Bluestone. Can I still use Stone King?
Many manufacturers recommend avoiding aggressive pressure washing because excessive pressure can damage the surface of natural or manufactured stone.
Stone King does the hard work by breaking down dirt & staining caused by algae & lichen. This means you only need to use a light pressure wash to rinse away the loosened debris, helping you achieve a cleaner finish with less risk of damaging your Bluestone.
Should I seal my Bluestone after using Stone King?
We do not recommend applying a sealer after cleaning. Sealers will not prevent algae or other organic growth and can alter the natural appearance of Bluestone.
Instead, we recommend treating your patio with our Patio Black Spot Preventer every 11–12 months. It helps prevent staining caused by black spots, removes green algae staining, and keeps your Bluestone looking clean while preserving its natural color and appearance.
